At Monkey Puzzle Harrow we pride ourselves in promoting healthy eating, we are taking part in the Mayor of London’s Healthy Early Years London campaign. We were awarded our first steps awards and we are currently working towards our bronze awards. We even received a thank you letter from the Mayor of London also.

We have had a good look at our menus and revised them so that we are providing the children with the best nutritious meals, our menus are fully nutritious, seasonal, and balanced. Our chef cooks all meals fresh daily and children and parents are happy with our menus. We take on board children’s feedback and if we find that something may not be working, we then look to see the next best option. We change our menus twice a year with Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer seasonal menus. We cater to all children’s dietary requirements, we have a colour coded system with red being for allergies, yellow being for any preferences and green being that a child can eat everything.

We are constantly updating parents on why it is important for healthy eating; we made the decision as a nursery for birthday celebrations instead of bringing unhealthy snacks bring healthy fruit platters as it does showcase to children the importance of healthy eating. We do workshops where children learn about what is inside food for example all the sugar in a fruit shoot juice that’s why it is best to drink water. We send reminders to parents on the importance of oral hygiene, regularly getting children’s teeth checked.

Each week all children take part in cooking club in the nursery, they make a mixture of nutritional sweet and savory treats with the children. All in line with children’s dietary’s allergies and preferences. The children really enjoy cooking, and they get to see the way ingredients changes when it is all mixed together.

We have provided some pictures below, you can see the cooking club food is both nutritional and seasonal.
